Common Methods of Water Filtration

There are many methods of filtering water and some have them have been around for hundreds of years. Some are highly complex and require constant maintenance and others are simple requiring only minimal servicing. Some methods require significant amounts of energy and others rely only on hydraulic forces and gravity to work effectively.

To decide which is the most appropriate method of water filtration to use in any given circumstance depends, among other things, on the source of the feed water, the intended use of the water and the volume of water which is required to be filtered.

H2Only is familiar with all types of water filtration and can advise you on the most suitable and cost-effective solution for your particular requirements in your unique location.

Two of the most common domestic filtration methods which are suitable for the Australian consumer are:

Cartridge Filtration

  • A home water filtration system such as the H2Only Twin or Single Filter Systems utilises cartridge filtration, whereby the pores of the filter attract and retain certain pollutants such as dirt, rust, and chemicals.

Reverse Osmosis

Reverse osmosis uses an advanced thin film composite membrane that removes heavy metals such as lead and aluminium as well as micro-organisms such as bacteria and viruses from the water.  Reverse osmosis is a process where the water is passed under pressure over a synthetic 0.006-micron membrane.

The water pressure forces the pure water molecules through the membrane leaving the pollutants behind to be passed into the waste system.
